What is a file version?

With 1.18, any cloud-saved project will auto-save project versions after a certain number of interactions. If you need to regress to a previous version, you can access and restore them at any point.

File versions are also saved when a manual save is triggered, either through the Save or Save As options under the File menu.

View the version history of saved projects

The Designer home page allows you to view a version of an unopened project.

  1. Open Squirrel and navigate to the Home Page

  2. Select 'Files' from the left side panel - will will be presented with a list of all saved projects.

All projects in the 'Files' list are cloud-only saved projects. To access a local project, select the 'Open Local File' at the top-right.

  1. Hover over a project and select the '...' More Options button towards the right side - this will open a context menu.

  2. Click 'Versions' at the bottom of the list - a modal will appear

From here you can select any auto-save version to open. Here you can select the "..." More Options button to Restore, Delete, or edit the description of the auto-save.

Restoring save versions

Through the 'Files' page

  1. Navigate to the 'File' section of the Start page

  2. Select the "..." More Options button and click Versions

  3. Select one of the project versions in the 'Version History' modal - the modal will move to the bottom left of the window.

  4. Click through each of the versions to preview them at each stage

  1. Click 'Restore this version' to load the project, or hit cancel to load the latest version.

Via the 'Autosave' menu

  1. Click 'Version History' - a modal will appear:

  1. View and select any autosaved version from this modal to preview on the canvas.

  2. Select 'Restore this version' to load the project.

Restoring save versions after a crash

Should the Designer crash, upon the next opening, you will be prompted to restore the last saved version of the project.

These crash autosave files do not appear in the file version history. This will instead restore the last autosaved version found in the 'Version History'

Select the icon at the top of the Designer window
